1. Increase the number of supporters and users of active transportation through persuasion and positive reinforcement by means of information and education to encourage the development of consciousness concerning the benefits of active transportation to individuals and society, as well as the negative effects of indiscrimiated use of individual motorized vehicles.
2. Build a network of information exchange and promote good practices, making the most of joint experiences in order to avoid the repetition of past errors. The network will attempt to develop specific strategies for the region, based on other iniciatives (at the global level) and taking into account the reality of the situation of transportation in Latin America and the Caribbean.
3. Develop capabilities and strengthen the promotion and management of all the network’s member organizations, in order to achieve their local objectives, and serve as a space of coordination in order to propose and achieve national objectives as well as continental objectives.
4. Strengthen the process of South-South alliances and cooperation, contributing to the creation of a particular discourse and an atonomous agenda regarding the issues of active and sustainable mobility. 5. Assist members of the network in obtaining funds for projects that contribute to the sustainability of transportation in Latin America and the Carribbean.
6. Develop citizens’ consciousness in Latin America and the Carribbean regarding the relevance of active and sustainable transportation in forming solutions to problems of inequality, strong individualization versus collective cooperation, contamination, traffic congestion, and public health.
7. Promote a culture of respect and tolerance towards these modes of transportation between the different users of public space.
8. Encourage governments of all Latin American countries –at their local, regional, and national levels– to take into account the iniciatives of citizens that promote active (non-motorized) transport, and to also include as a priority in government plans an integrated road infrastructure, where cyclists, pedestrians, users of public transportation, and persons with limited mobility can rely on the possibility of accessibility, connection, and safety.
9. Promote research and development projects concerning sustainable mobility.
